A DISQUALIFIED BMW driver who lied to police about having a foreign licence has been arrested after presenting officers with a SpongeBob SquarePants licence.
The motorist was pulled over by police officers in Merseyside yesterday, where he attempted to explain that he was a foreign licence holder.
Upon closer inspection though, officers discovered that the BMW 7 Series driver was lying and – whilst a UK licence holder for 15 years – had been disqualified for totting up too many points.
Seizing the car and placing the driver in handcuffs, officers must have at least gotten a chuckle out of the licence that the bloke was carrying – which bore the photo and name of cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants.
An image of the unconvincing fake ID shows the pink licence bearing a picture of the character – who is a notoriously bad driver in the show, having supposedly failed his driving test at least 1,258,056 times.
The yellow cartoon sponge can be seen sporting a wide smile and throwing his hands up in glee in the licence photo.
Alongside this are several other made-up credentials crafted to resemble those seen on an actual UK licence, including an address and even a signature.
The licence claims its carrier’s first name to be “Sponge” and last name “Bob”, with a birth date and location of “01.01.01, Ocean”.
It also lists his current address as “USA, The Ocean” and bears a simple signature supposedly scrawled by the happy-go-lucky sponge himself.
The snap of the fake licence was shared to social media yesterday with the caption: “The driver of this BMW 7 Series lied to us when he said he was a foreign licence holder.
“He’d had a UK licence for over 15 years and was disqualified for ‘totting up’ points. Car seized and driver arrested.
“Something tells us this licence we found in his wallet isn’t genuine either.”
The post has received over 390 likes and more than 20 comments from social media users.
One user joked: “That’s the wrong address too, should be The Pineapple, Under the Sea, Atlantic Ocean, International waters.”
Another said: “And they seriously thought they could get away with that?”
