THE Tartan Army were left delighted after a cheerful German train conductor began playing Flower of Scotland over their carriage’s tannoy.
The train was travelling to Stuttgart, Baden-Wurttemberg last week as Scots made the trip to their crunch game against Hungary on Sunday.
As the Deutsche Bahn train rolled through the centre of Germany, the conductor had a surprise in store for some fatigued members of the Tartan Army.
Video shows the moment the conductor – who is sporting Scotland badges on his uniform as a newly converted fan of the national side – gets his phone out and begins to play the unofficial Scottish national anthem.
Several Scotland supporters can be seen standing up drinking from cups and singing along to the much-loved song.
The train conductor himself seems to be having a fantastic time smiling from ear to ear as he raises his fist and films the Scottish fans who have become beloved in their short time in Germany.
As the song ends, the carriage lets out a loud whoop and cheers as the conductor stops his video.
The clip was captured by legendary radio presenter Cat Harvey who shared her recording to social media last week.
She said: “This is magic, our train conductor says he is now a Scotland fan, he is wearing Scotland badges on his uniform and just played Flower of Scotland over the full train tannoy.
“Everyone is asleep/burst but got there eventually.”
Her post received over 8,300 likes with dozens of comments from Scotland supporters and Germans who were loving the train conductor’s fun-loving mood with the Scots.
One said: “I’m on the train, it was class.”
Another added: “Can you guys just stay here? I’ve seen the Tartan Army in Berlin, and it instantly lifted my spirits, we need you guys here.”
A third replied: “Aw that made me greet, amazing.”
Another commented: “Just one more reason to love Scotland.”
Sadly, the atmosphere on the train wasn’t matched by Steve Clarke’s men on the pitch as Hungary scored in the tenth minute of added on time to eliminate Scotland.
