KING Charles has been slammed for hypocrisy after eagle eyed observers spotted a young boy carrying his cape during his attendance at St Paul’s Cathedral.
The Monarch had his long flowing cape carried for him by a young boy as he ascended the steps of St Paul’s for an OBE service yesterday.
This comes just days after former Prime Minister Gordon Brown urged the Government to tackle child poverty.
King Charles has been an outspoken campaigner against child poverty, with the issue being one of the key points in his November 2023 speech.
Amid the cost-of-living crisis and worsening food poverty in the country, however, the King has been slammed online for his use of taxpayer money.
The video shows King Charles, side by side with Queen Camilla, ascending the steps to the cathedral for a special OBE (Order of the British Empire) service.
Dressed in a long flowing cape, the King wore his navy uniform underneath as he and Camila were led into the cathedral by the Lord Mayor of the City of London, Michael Mainelli.
Behind Charles followed a young boy in military dress who carried the trail of his cape up the steep stairs.
The video, when shared, sparked outrage amongst social media users who were quick to vent their fury.
The clip was shared yesterday with the caption: “The King, heading to a meeting about the rise of child poverty. Luckily, he has a kid carrying his big, long cape.”
It has received well over 350 likes and more than 50 comments from social media users arguing about the ethics of the young cape carrier.
One user said: “Chucks doing his bit during the ‘Cost of Living Crisis’ there would normally have been six [children] carrying his robe.”
Another added: “Is the page boy living his dream to do the job, or living his parents’ dream?”
A third wrote: “After giving himself a 45-million-pound annual raise in salary.”
Another replied: “Mind boggling they get away with this.”
