VOTERS at a London polling station were left crestfallen when they spotted a “depressing” sign for a food bank right next door.
Katie Clark snapped a picture of the sign in the polling station in Gospel Oak, Inner London yesterday, which has left Brits panning the state of the country.
The picture shows the signpost in a corridor pointing in one direction to the polling booths and the other to a food bank.
Voters were left appalled at the signage and were quick to brand it a “sign of the times” amid the country’s worrying foodbank usage numbers.
The signpost reads “Voting” just above a green arrow pointing to the right and “Food bank” just above a blue arrow pointing to the left.
The sign’s irony was not lost on voters and social media users who were quick to express their sadness that such a sign was needed.
Some suggested that the positioning of the sign was a strategic political plot to sway voters one way or the other.
The current local elections have seen parties go head-to-head to win power in English counties, with voting taking place yesterday.
Votes for 107 local councils and ten mayoral elections were cast yesterday with some results already coming in.
The Conservatives have suffered their worst losses in 30 years whilst Labor have gained a number of seats across the country.
Katie shared the snap of the sign to social media yesterday amid the voting with the caption: “My polling station in Gospel Oak this morning.”
Social media voters and locals quickly flocked to the post to express their disappointment that such a sign was needed.
The post received over 19,000 likes and more than 50 comments from users left stunned at the sign’s presence in the polling station.
One user said: “What a sign of the times.”
Another added: “Interesting. I’m sure I’ve seen some research that suggests where polling stations are situated can have an influence on how people vote (Although I’ve no idea how you would prove this)”
A third wrote : “So sad that this is becoming more and more normal in the UK.”
Another replied: “That is what is known as subliminal messaging.”
