THIS is the moment a brazen masked thug casually breaks a lock and steals a bike in broad daylight from right outside a London train station.
The robber was filmed by a passerby yesterday outside Canada Water station in Rotherhithe, South Central London.
The bloke remained unchallenged as he nonchalantly snapped the bike’s chain and rode it away in front of dozens of Londoners.
Video footage of the robbery shows the masked thug, dressed in all black, fiddling with the bike’s lock as he attempts to break it and free the bicycle.
The passerby who records the theft notices what the robber is doing and crosses the road to confront him.
As he draws near, however, the robber manages to get the bike lock free with a loud snapping sound being heard as he breaks the chain.
The robber then wrestles with a cycling helmet that was locked up with the bike, freeing it from the chain and throwing it to the road.
Mounting the bike and preparing to make his escape the brazen robber turns and notices the man recording him.
The passerby – who remains the only one to say anything to the bloke – can be heard making protests to the thief, tiredly asking: “What are you doing?”
The brazen robber pays little mind to his critic though, turning as he cycles away to shout: “Shut up bruv (sic).”
The man recording the incident then shouts, “Scumbag” as the fleeing criminal disappears.
The footage of the thief’s brazen daylight robbery was shared to social media yesterday with the caption: “9am this morning at Canada Water.
“So sad for the owner of this bike. Didn’t take much to twist it off with a bar.
“Apparently they’re there every day. I know there’s no point in challenging them and safety etc. but still it’s just wrong.”
The clip has since received over 760 likes and more than 170 comments from social media users left shocked at the thief’s confidence.
One user said: “For f***s sake, and absolutely don’t challenge. People are unpredictable these days and who knows what they have on them.”
Another added: “Unfortunately that’s the attitude of the current generation. If they want it, they’ll just steal it because they’ll more than likely get away with it.”
A third commented: “Think it’s time we make all hoods and masks illegal now. If you’re out in public, we should be able to see your face.”
Another wrote: “Happens all over the country. Police won’t even investigate bike thefts. They don’t have enough resources.”
