WATCH the shocking moment a Tesco security guard is assaulted by a shoplifter after he tries to stop them from robbing the store.
The incident took place at a Tesco store in Reading, Berkshire, when a shoplifter with a bag full of stolen goods made a dash for the exit in an attempt to escape.
Spotting the thief, the store’s security guard tried to stop them from leaving with their stolen goods but was met with a violent assault for his efforts.
The video footage of the incident, recorded by a customer, shows the brave security guard grab ahold of the thief as they run for the door.
The man recording the incident can be heard saying: “No f***ing way, they’re nicking the whole thing.” as he walks up an empty isle to get a good view of the thief.
The security guard manages to get the bag of stolen goods carried by the shoplifter out of his hands and attempts to turn to move it out of reach of the thief.
In return however, the shoplifter spins and puts the security guard into a headlock twisting him towards the floor.
The two grapple for a moment as they each try to get the best of each other in the fight with the shoplifter twisting the security guards neck.
The shoplifter appears to have an accomplice also carrying a bag of presumably stolen goods who waits at the door to the shop for his partner in crime.
With the fight escalating and the shoplifter seemingly getting the upper hand, the security guard lets go of the shoplifter.
The thief continues to choke the security guard for a moment causing concerned bystanders and shop workers to rush to the aid of the security guard.
A customer who attempted to help the security guard can be heard saying: “Let him go, just leave him alone.” as he tries to remove the thief’s grip on the security guard’s neck.
The thief, seeing people rushing to help his opponent, releases the security guard and runs for the door of the shop.
Both the violent thief and his partner escape the shop with their bags full of stolen goods as the video comes to an abrupt end.
The footage of the incident was shared to social media yesterday with the caption: “Shop thieves at Tesco in reading.”
The social media post showing the shocking footage has since received over 190 lies and more than 40 comments from social media users.
One user said: “I’d love to be there and get my hands on the thief.
“Let’s just say that he’d have a bruised ego, an apology to the SIA security, an apology to the staff and then perhaps, if I did feel inclined to, I’d let him go.
“Otherwise, he’d be spending the night in the nick that’s for sure.”
Another added: “I respect anyone who is a supermarket security guard.”
A third said: “What’s the point of having security in the store if all they’re supposed to do is to let them go?”
And a fourth added: “Shoplifting has gotten out of control. Videos like this, just give ideas to other budding shoplifters that they CAN get away with it.”
