THIS is the moment a moped driver is snatched at a red light by undercover police officers in an unmarked car.
Footage of the dramatic arrest was captured on the dashcam of a nearby car on Kingsland Road in Dalston, North London, yesterday evening.
The video footage shows a queue of traffic coming to a stop at a red light with cyclists filtering between the cars using the cycle lane.
The moped driver can then be seen following the cyclists’ lead and using the cycle lane illegally to skip to the front of the queue.
The moped driver comes to a stop just behind a cyclist and waits for the traffic lights to turn green.
The man in the car recording the incident can be heard chatting away nonchalantly to his colleague as the queue awaits the light change.
However, the conversation is soon interrupted by oncoming police officers who make their move to nick the moped driver.
They pull forward in an unmarked Peugeot and the officer in the passenger seat jumps out of the car, rushing the unwitting driver as he sits at the lights.
The man in the car recording can be heard saying: “What’s going on here to the left, to the left? Oh old bill.”
As he says this, the undercover motor’s blue lights flash on and the moped driver attempts to flee, speeding forward and colliding with the cyclist stopped in front of him.
The cyclist stumbles, dropping their bike and stepping out of the way as the officers descend on the driver and grab hold of him.
They pull the moped diver from his bike and onto the floor where they become obscured from the view of the camera by another vehicle.
The man in the car recording the incident can be heard saying: “Oh he’s got him, he’s got him. F***ing hell.”
The man recording the footage, along with his passenger, can then be heard discussing the possibility that the moped rider could be a drug dealer posing as a delivery rider.
A fight appears to break out between the officers and the moped driver with the police seemingly struggling to keep the man on the floor.
The video comes to an end as the struggle dies down and the moped driver is detained, with the man in the car with the dashcam exclaiming: “Wow, little bit of entertainment.”
The footage was shared to social media with the caption: “Drug dealer gets mash up.”
Whilst the moped rider’s exact reason for detainment is uncertain, driving in a cycle lane is illegal and motorists who commit the offence in London can face a fine of up to £160.
The Met Police have been contacted for comment.
