Spiderman swings into Dunfermline’s ‘Land of Spices’

THE Duloch Spiderman entered the ‘Land of Spices’ this week as he attended the launch of Dhoom in Dunfermline, Fife.

Local superhero, Dave Roper, made an appearance at Dhoom Indian Steatery and Bar to sample the new menu based on food from Chennai, one of the oldest cities on the Southern Coast of India.

Dave became a positive light for the people of Dunfermline during the pandemic when we donned the spiderman outfit to bring joy to the local children and raise money for Calaiswood School.

He has since gone on to raise more money for charity, with his most recent adventure allowing him to show off his spider abilities by abseiling down the Falkirk Wheel for Alzheimer Scotland.

Owner of Dhoom, Prasad, was overjoyed to take pictures and share his new menu with hero himself.

He said: “We had a special launch event at Dhoom, with some food journalists, bloggers and influencers coming along to try the new menu and we thought we’d invite Dave whom we know does a great deal for the local community.

“We’re always looking to collaborate and get involved with other like-minded people. We’re really pleased that we’ve met Dave now and have given him the opportunity to try our food, as he had not been here before – he deserves a treat,” he added.

“We might be able to do some activity together in the future, to benefit the community, as we’re always looking for new people to support.”

Within the last few months, Prasad has also done his part for the community by donating £4250 to a number of local charities and groups.

After Dhoom was awarded ‘Indian Restaurant of the year, Central Scotland’ at the Scottish Curry Awards earlier this month, Prasad has come out with a new 10 course Chennai taster menu.

The chef spent four months in the city last November researching his new menu and figuring out how to add his own special twist.

Speaking of the Indian city of Chennai, he said: “A warm and welcoming coastal metropolitan megacity with a love for food, music, dance, poetry, and culture. It’s a city where the heritage of the past is met with a changing vista of a modern cosmopolitan.

“This is the “Land of Spices”, and that is very much reflected in the cuisine as well. It is a truly inspiring region for me to explore through a new tasting menu.”

Dhoom has already taken their customers on a culinary journary across 11 different regions of India, with Chennai being the 12th stop on the adventure.

Prasad has said he will never end his journey across India and will continue to revisit the country to find unique and authentic foods to bring back to the customers of Dhoom.
