House hunters left baffled by bizarre studio flat in old police station – featuring its own prison cell

KEEN-EYED house hunters have been baffled by a bizarre studio flat in a former police station, which boasts a unique statement piece.

The property, a one-bedded studio flat in Dudley, Birmingham, was added to Rightmove last month and is situated inside an old police station.

The £750-per-month property hilariously features its very own holding cell built right into the corner of the main room.

The newly refurbished ground floor flat features an open-plan style kitchen, fully fitted bathroom and of course the large steel holding cell.

The property boasts an operational holding cell.

Listing agents Taylors even address the cell in their description of the property, advertising it as suitable for a “living/dining and bedroom area”.

Their description reads: “A fantastic and unusual opportunity.” using the holding cell as a unique selling point.

“This ground floor, spacious studio apartment has had a full refurb, the property features a holding cell in the studio which is large enough for a living / dining and bedroom area.

“The property also has an open plan modern style kitchen, three-piece white shower room suite and benefits from having an intercom system with secure entry.”

House hunters were left baffled by the bizarre feature when they discovered it, sharing the listing to social media with baffled comments about its presence.

The listing was posted on social media yesterday with the caption: “I’ve heard people say their rental feels like a prison cell, but this is something else.”

The listing received 1,100 likes and 415 comments from baffled social media users who cracked jokes about the living room’s talking point.

One user said: “I like how the advert does not mention it was a police station. Just that there is a cell for no apparent reason.”

Another added: “And why would the builder decide to just leave it there and renovate around it. Giant dog crate maybe? Timeout pen for extreme toddler tantrums?”

A third wrote: “More than that, they’ve added it in – that’s not an original feature, British police stations don’t have cells like that, and never did.

“It’s a themed addition, I’ll grant, but it’s an addition.”

Another joked: “Owner doesn’t work full moons.”
