EDINBURGH locals have hit out at their council over the “shoddy” repair work undertaken to fix a massive pothole on one of the city’s cobbled streets.
The lazy work was carried out on West Nicholson Street in Scotland’s capital and was spotted by residents yesterday.
The huge pothole covered one side of the road with the cobbles being completely ripped up, stretching from the kerb to almost the middle of the road.
However, the repair job leaves a lot to be desired, with baffled locals comparing the tarmac user to fill the hole to “black pudding”.
An image of the work shows the nearly unavoidable pothole, which presented a real danger for cyclists and motorists alike, now filled in with black tarmac.
Fenced off with orange road barriers, the black tarmac appears to have been dumped in the hole and left there to set.
Barriers fencing off the work site were left strewn in the street and the cobbles originally covering that section of road have disappeared, replaced with the unsightly mound of tarmac.
Locals have since complained about the laziness of the work and pointed out that the historic cobbled street would now be marked forever with the shoddy repair work.
A post showing an image of the tarmac dumped into the hole was shared to social media yesterday with the caption: “Aye just fill it with tarmac, that’ll do the trick.”
The post has since received over 360 likes and dozens of comments from fuming locals left incredulous by the repairs.
One user said: “Presumably this was done by a utilities company, but is there ever any comeback for shoddy reinstatement?
“Or is it a case of the council being completely toothless, and these companies can just run riot?”
Another added: “What did they fill it with, black pudding?”
A third wrote: “Run out of money… until it’s pay rise time for the councillors.”
Another replied: “What street is that? I’ll go draw on some cobbles with white chalk.”
