Moment London cyclist stops at red light – and is thanked in chance encounter with Hollywood legend Bill Nighy

THIS is the moment a London cyclist stopped at a red light – and was thanked for his manners by none other than Hollywood legend Bill Nighy.

The rider – who goes by CycleGaz online – came to a gradual stop as the lights changed outside the Queen Mother Sports Centre in Westminster, Central London yesterday.

Waiting patiently, Gaz watched on as pedestrians crossed in front of him, including Academy Award winner Nighy – who expressed his thanks for Gaz’s decency.

The video footage shows Gaz heading along Vauxhall Bridge Road before hitting the brakes as he approaches a set of traffic lights.

The celebrity thanked the cyclist for allowing him to cross.

As he comes to a complete stop at the lights, a woman walking a cane wanders across.

Gaz then waits as another cyclist and a couple of other pedestrians cross the street, instead of blowing straight through the red light.

One of these pedestrians – an older chap dressed in a long brown coat and carrying a briefcase – then catches Gaz’s attention as he crosses in front of him.

Quickly revealed to be 74-year-old Nighy, the Love Actually star looks at Gaz and raises his hand in thanks, saying: “Thank you, thank you.”

Gaz then jokes in response: “I needed the rest.”

Chuckling, Nighy then replies: “Oh well I thought that when I saw you stop.”

Gaz, seemingly having not yet realised who he has just spoken to, sets off as the light turns green and laughs, saying: “Have a great day fella.”

Gaz shared the footage of the pair’s kind interaction to social media yesterday with the caption: “Bill Nighy thanks cyclist for stopping at a red traffic light.”

The clip has since received over 290 likes and 20 comments from social media users complimenting the pair on their kindness to each other.

One user said: “He was just in shock a cyclists stop at a red light.”

Another added: “Fame at last. Save this one for all the driverists (sic) who say cyclists don’t stop at red lights.”

A third wrote: “It’s always lovely to see an actor you admire being the gent you always thought he was.”

Another replied: “What a lovely man… both of you.”

A fifth commented: “I’ve met him a few times – he’s an absolutely lovely guy.”
