A MISSING cat has given its owner the surprise of her life after finally returning home nearly three years after going missing.
Amanda Somerville, 35, was at home in Lochgelly, Fife, earlier this month when she received a knock on her door from a woman claiming to have found her cat.
The Fife-based owner had been left heartbroken when 11-year-old moggy Simba went missing in July 2021, and “didn’t think she would see him again”.
However, rushing to a nearby stable where the cat was said to have been living, Amanda’s hopes were proven true when she was greeted by Simba in a moving reunion of cuddles and tears of joy.
Overjoyed, Amanda’s family flocked to lather attention on Simba, who was equally as pleased to be reunited with the family’s other cat, Oliver.
Video footage showed Simba getting back into his rule of the roost, re-establishing his favourite nooks inside the home and cosying up to Amanda.
Taking to social media this month to share her joy, Amanda wrote: “Well, the most amazing thing happened today after three long years.
“My boy Simba is finally home where he belongs. A huge thank you to everyone who helped look for him and a special thank you to Sheree Keicher, who was the one that reunited us.”
The post received dozens of likes and comments as many outpoured their support for the family.
Wilson Stacey wrote: “No way. Is he healthy – fed? Has someone had him?”
Jackie Fowler Maxwell said: “I’m over the bloody moon he’s home. Angel – not so much.”
Linda Gray commented: “Bet he’s got some stories to tell about his adventures. So happy for you.”

Amanda said of the miracle reunion: “I’m so happy, I can’t believe my boy’s home. I can’t believe it. He’s settled in well already.
“He’s been at the stables, sleeping with horses. The owners were kindly giving him food and he’s a good hunter with rabbits and squirrels on the menu.
“He’s been looked after, and he’s always been a hunter. I honestly didn’t think I would see him again but to have him snuggled in on Chloe’s lap is everything
“He’s been playing and is settled in on the back of my chair.”
Speaking to Amanda today, she said: “A lady that used to live in my street came to my door on Friday 5 April to ask if I had ever gotten Simba home as she had remembered seeing the posters I’d put up.
“She showed me some photos and a video she had taken.
“She owns horses and he had been sleeping in the stable with him and that’s how she had discovered my little guy.
“The second I heard his cry I knew it was him. So, the next day she took me to pick him up.
“The second he saw me, he came running over and I picked him up and he cuddled into my chest.
“It was honestly the most amazing feeling ever to me it was like winning the lottery to finally have my baby boy back.”
