THIS is the horror moment that a van comes inches away from causing a head-on crash on one of the UK’s most notorious roads.
Dashcam footage captures the moment that a white van opts to try and overtake another vehicle whilst on the A9 earlier this week as traffic heads right towards them.
The shocking situation unfolded just outside of Newtonmore, Scottish Highlands but miraculously nobody was hurt.
The footage, captured from the dashcam of the vehicle being overtaken, shows the traffic coming around a slight bend in the A9 as headlights beam up ahead.
The driver continues as a safe speed as the headlights draw closer on the single carriageway.
As the lights get closer, a countdown marker indicating the exit coming up in 300 yards can be seen on the left-hand side.
On the right, a white Mercedes van has pulled up next to the driver and begins indicating to get back into the correct lane of traffic.
The white van driver speeds up and, still indicating, puts some distance between the dashcam and himself.
The traffic on the other side of the road has arrived at the scene and looks destined to crash head on with the van.
Miraculously, the van driver manages to get enough of his vehicle back on the right side of the road to avoid causing a collision as the oncoming traffic whizzes past mere inches from him.
The breathtaking clip was shared to social media yesterday with the caption: “Pal just sent me this, it’s his work van’s dashcam.
“Outside Newtonmore around 7pm last night.”
The video received over 220 likes with dozens of comments from concerned locals who were relieved that nobody was harmed due to the actions of the van driver.
Neil Campbell said: “That road is dangerous but some drivers make it so much worse.”
Kelly Stewart said: “Jesus, how there wasn’t (sic) a fatal accident? They deserve to lose their licence.”
June MacKay said: “For f**k’s sake that was close and a work van, needs to be reported as that could have been a family member not coming home.”
Mac Card said: “That’s as close as it gets, wonder who the van belongs to.”
Dangerous driving is the most serious motoring offence that can be given without causing death or injury, as being convicted could lead to the possibility of a two-year prison sentence.
