A SCOTS charity has kicked off their 75th anniversary celebrations with a party at their day centre.
Glasgow’s Golden Generation, a charity which helps aid elderly members of the city, enjoyed welcoming guests to their west end location.
Established in 1948, GGG has been supporting older adults in the city by reducing loneliness and isolation through services such as befriending, day centres, digital inclusion and welfare advice.
The charity launched its celebrations at the Fred Paton Day Centre with service users from across the charity’s services invited to enjoy lunch and a daytime disco with some help from Weekday Wow Factor.
The CEO Richard Donald said: “We are delighted to be celebrating our Diamond Anniversary this year and will be looking back on all the charity has achieved over the past 75 years.
“The charity was founded just after the end of the second world war so has seen the city change over the years.
“Our first service was the Neighbourhood Visiting Service – now known as the Befriending Service – which sees trained volunteers visiting older adults to provide friendship and a listening ear.
“Other services have been developed such as the Day Centres in the South and West of the city, a Digital Inclusion service which gets older adults online and our weekly clubs which are led by older adults for older adults.”
“GGG is more relevant than ever some seven decades since its inception – people are living longer and with that comes associated health problems.
“We’re here to ensure no older adult in Glasgow is lonely or isolated in their golden years.”
The charity is calling for people in Glasgow to help them celebrate by attending one of the anniversary events.
The range of events includes a charity Golf Day at Cawder Golf Club in September and a Ladies Afternoon Tea being held at Hampden Park in October.
Volunteers are also being sought to join the charity’s Befriending Service which will make a real difference to the lives of older Glaswegians.
Local business, Caledonian Cowgirl created a bespoke celebration logo as a gift to the charity to help celebrate the anniversary.
