Tourist left fuming after Edinburgh Castle tour allegedly insulted Americans with joke that they would love to sue

A TOURIST was left fuming by their visit to Edinburgh Castle after their tour guide allegedly insulted three different nations including Americans – with a joke that they are “fond of sueing”.

The tourist, known simply as Frances, had purchased four tickets at £40 apiece for the capital city’s guided walking tour round the historic castle last week.

Despite high hopes, Frances claims the group’s experience was ruined by a “highly opinionated” tour guide who launched jibes at German people, Americans and the Royal Family.

With comments made at the expense of those in attendance, Frances claims that their group were left with no choice but to leave the tour after just 40 minutes, before submitting a scathing review.

The tourist, who claims to have previously been a tour guide as well, warned others to “do your research” before booking a tour guide for the 9th century castle.

Frances wrote in the review: “The guide was appalling – full stop.

“We could not believe what we were listening to – which was a highly opinionated, insulting and self indulgent tour with no structure.

“We paid £40 x 4 and left the tour after 40 mins after we just couldn’t listen to anymore.

“She managed to highly insult the English and its royalty, Germans and the Americans during that brief time, warning the Americans not to fall off a wall as ‘we all know how fond that Americans are of sueing!’

“I happen to have been a tour guide previously so believe me when I say it was bad. There were so many good guides present in the castle that day – do your research and make sure and book them.”

Despite the bad review, Edinburgh castle is well-received by many tourists across the world, attracting as many as 1.3 million visitors last year alone.

It is well known for being the host of many events including the Hogmanay Street Party and the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
