A SCOTS broadband company has been announced as the newest sponsor of the famous Melrose Sevens.
Gofibre is the new sponsor of the world-renowned rugby tournament for the next three years.
The Borders-founded company will be the official platinum communications partner of the event next April.
A new addition to the competition will be a pre-qualification tournament as part of efforts to support grassroots rugby in the area.
It will take place on April 7th, and is set to host 16 grassroots clubs from the Borders and Northern England.
Finalists will face each other at the Greenyards main pitch the following evening, with the winners receiving a place in the 2024 tournament and a £1,000 prize.
Phil Morris, Tournament Director at Melrose Rugby Club, said:Â “Melrose Sevens is a tournament loved by so many in the region.
“So, to be able to bring on board a sponsor who is born and bred in the area, means a great deal to the club, especially in our 140th year of the event.”
The company will also sponsor the event’s family zone and gift its full-fibre technology to the club.
The company says this is a contribution which aims to improve the club’s capacity to host events in the long term.
Sam Calvert, Chief Revenue Officer, GoFibre said: “This sponsorship announcement is the first step of our commitment to improving the lives of local communities across Scotland, particularly in rural areas that can often be left behind when it comes to digital connectivity.”
The broadband business wants to break the digital divide in remote areas across Scotland and Northern England.
