Pub owner buries beloved cat in garden – only for him to waltz in hours later

A PUB owner buried their ‘beloved cat’ in the garden – only to watch their pet come strolling in hours later.

Liam Carberry couldn’t believe his eyes when Biff sauntered into The Plough Inn in Long Wittenham, Oxfordshire on Wednesday just hours after he was given a loving send off.

He had only just buried a black and white cat outside near the river thinking it was his four legged friend.

Liam quickly realised that it wasn’t Biff and ended up having to issue an appeal to try and track down the deceased cat’s owners.

Shortly after, a fellow villager got in touch and confirmed that Liam had buried their cat who had the same markings as Biff.

Liam posted about the incident on Facebook on Wednesday, writing: “So this evening someone came to the pub with a beautiful black and white cat that had been hit by a car, they thought it was our Biff.

“So did we…

“We buried him near our river frontage with the utmost respect and gave him a loving send off.

“Biff has just turned up at the pub, alive and well.

“If anyone knows anyone in the village that is missing a black and white cat please please get in touch asap.

“So sorry for any distress caused, we are just as blindsided.”

The post was removed shortly after the cat was identified, however screenshots of the post were shared across social media.

Hundreds of shocked social media users left comments about the unfortunate mix-up

One said: “The exact same has happened to me, has been the weirdest emotional rollercoaster I’ve ever been on.”

Another wrote: “Biffs like ‘took me hours to dig out of that hole you idiots, I got six lives left’.”

A third added: “I thought this was going to be a joke for a second.”

And one person commented: “Late to his own funeral.”

Speaking today, Liam said: “We took the post down as the woman who the cat belonged to was so distraught.”
