AN NHS worker has shared shocking images showing how her car was stripped of its bonnet by thieves while she worked at a nearby hospital.
Rosie Bentley’s car window was also smashed during the raid, which took place last Thursday [16 Apr].
The physiotherapist, who works at Queen Elizabeth hospital in Birmingham, says she was left unable to get to her job following the theft.
Photos show how Rosie’s red Vauxhall Corsa has been stripped of its bonnet and some electricals.
The car window has also been shattered, leaving a trail of smashed glass.
A devastated Rosie, 26, took to social media to warn others, sharing photos with the caption: “As an NHS worker, the impact of the current crisis is something I’m feeling first-hand and things are quite stressful as you can imagine.
“As if things weren’t tough enough, what happened this morning was the final blow for me.
“At 7.30am, I left my house to go to work at my hospital, only to find that my car’s window had been smashed and it had been stripped of it’s bonnet overnight. I wasn’t able to go anywhere!
“In a world where the country is in lockdown in a selfless act to save our NHS and humankind, it appears that a selfish need for car parts was too much for some to handle and they mindlessly put their own needs before others.
“I was left with no car to get to work with, meaning I lost valuable hours doing my job during this pandemic!
“To the people who ripped my car apart – I hope you somehow see this and will think again, especially if you or your loved ones have been affected by this horrible virus or are ever in need of NHS care.
“To everyone else – I’m sharing this in the hope that it might stop others from accidentally buying these stolen parts.
“Please also be vigilant of people acting suspiciously and keep yourselves safe.”
Her post sparked outrage among social media users.
Jonno Simmons wrote under Rosies’ post: “Corsa cannibals.”
Frank Farmer added: “These lot are animals with no empathy. They’ve been getting away with this for donkey’s years.”
And John Francis commented: “Hope these b******s get the virus and then the NHS refuse to treat them”.
Speaking today, Rosie said: “I was shocked and really frustrated. Working at the hospital currently is emotionally challenging.
“This just felt like the final blow. It took about three hours of my day to sort before being able to get into work, fortunately a housemate was able to take me into work.
“Sadly the case was closed the same day by the police as there isn’t any CCTV or witnesses for them to use as evidence.
“It really was upsetting! I wouldn’t say annoyed, they have very little to go on unfortunately but, as this is a common thing by the sounds of things.
“It would be nice to know the case goes towards a bigger case looking into stopping this.
“Admiral Insurance have waived my excess fee as I am in a key worker role, but it is still affecting my premium and no claims.”
A spokeswoman for West Midlands Police said: “We were alerted to a report that a Vauxhall Corsa had been stripped of its parts on Sandon Road, Edgbaston, overnight on Wednesday 15 April.”
