Newly built student accommodation at the University of St Andrew has won a prestigious architecture prize.
Whitehorn Hall, which opened in 2018, has won the 2019 prize in the residential category of the Scottish Design Awards.
The student residence, which is named after writer Katharine Whitehorn, the first female Rector of the University (1982 to 1985), is a four-storey high building adjacent to University Hall in Kennedy Gardens in the town.
The self-catering accommodation, which has 184 rooms, was commended for its design which consists of a series of collegiate style quads sympathetic to the existing residence.
Ben Stuart, Director of Residential and Business Services at the University, said: “The University is delighted that Whitehorn Hall was the recipient of the recent design award.
“This award cements our ambition to provide a world-class student experience within residences where students are comfortable and safe and which allows them to produce their best work.”
The Scottish Design Awards are now in their 22nd year and were created with the aim of celebrating the best design and architecture.
