Commenting on today’s release of UCAS (University and Colleges Admission Service) acceptances (placed applicants) to UK universities, Higher Education Minister Richard Lochhead said:
“Once again these figures highlight the good progress being made on widening access to higher education and show demonstrable advances towards giving every young person in Scotland an equal chance of success, no matter their background or circumstance.
“Scottish acceptances to UK universities from the most deprived areas are currently at a record high, increasing to 4,860, with Scottish 18-year-olds from the most deprived areas accepted to UK universities also increasing by 1% to record levels.”
These figures are at a record high for this stage in the cycle. Applications continue to be processed over the coming weeks.
UCAS (University and Colleges Admission Service) provides application services to UK universities and colleges for full-time higher education courses, the majority being at undergraduate level.
The UCAS figures for the most deprived areas for Scotland and the rest of the UK are not fully comparable. The entry rate for Scottish 18-year-olds from the most deprived areas accepted to UK universities increased by 0.3 percentage points to 12.9%
