A SCOTTISH football team’s supporters have been trolled after their online fundraising effort to buy an on-loan striker generated just £5.
Kilmarnock fans were desperate to hang on to Birmingham City’s Greg Stewart after he scored eight goals in 16 appearances.
So when Birmingham decided to take Stewart back they set up a fundraising target of £500,000 to buy him outright.
But the campaign has folded after a few days with just £5 raised – just 0.00001% of the target.
A link to the page was posted on a Rangers fans’ forum, where the campaign was torn to shreds.
Steve A Stevens said: “F what? Lol.”
ElBarrileteCosmico commented: “They could just use the £700,000 fee we gave them for Jordan Jones, no wait, they refused that and we’re getting him for free.
“Scottish football – hating itself to death.”
LoneRanger said: “Just because you can raise funds for the transfer doesn’t mean yer club can afford his wages.”
Commodore Carbuncle said: “I’m going to donate 10p so that I can type lolza on the page.”
Konkey Dong commented: “Walloper. There’s a really good fundraising campaign they could get involved with now that I think of it, we do it all the time, it’s called fans going to the games and supporting the team financially.”
Stirling-born Stewart, who previously played for Dundee and Aberdeen, had become a fan favourite as Killie’s remarkable season has seen them sitting third in the Scottish Premiership.
However, Birmingham City manager, Gary Monk has used a clause in the striker’s contract which will take him back to the English Championship side.
The Killie fans’ fundraising page stated: “Greg Stewart is one of the best players to have graced Rugby Park in recent years.
“Losing him is a huge blow to our title challenge and diminishes the chances of a team being able to break Celtic’s current monopoly on the title.
“Please donate so that we can get this majestic player to the Theatre of Pies for good.”
