Hearts have been told that they will not sign David Vanecek on the cheap after Teplice director Petr Hynek described the Gorgie ouftit’s opening bid as ‘very low’.
Vanecek is wanted by Hearts manager Craig Levein this summer even though the Tynecastle side have already agreed a pre-contract to secure the player on a two-and-a-half year deal when his current contract expires at the end of December.
Talks between Hearts and their Czech counterparts over a six-figure fee are continuing but Hynek insists the Fortuna Liga side will not be pressurised into selling the 27-year-old.
Hynek said: “David Vanecek has a contract at Teplice that runs until the end of the calendar year.
“He would like to leave in the summer for an immediate departure to Scotland.
“We have received an offer from Hearts, which is very low in our view.”
Vanecek, who scored 12 goals last season, is well aware of the success his fellow countrymen have enjoyed at Hearts and is relishing following in their footsteps.
Playmaker Rudi Skacel became a club legend in his two spells at the club, winning two Scottish Cup and scoring 48 goals.
Striker Roman Bednar, who also won the cup in 2006, impressed before earning a move to West Brom.
Vanecek said: “Rudi Skacel did well in his first season, he scored 16 goals then left for Southampton in the English Premier League.
“He played over 70 matches in England, that’s a huge success the dream of every footballer.
“Roman Bednar did something similar and it will be very important for me to be a success for Hearts.”
