SHOCKING footage shows the moment a driver reverses at high speed down a quiet residential street and smashes into a parked car.
CCTV footage, captured in Aberdeen, shows the moment driver Craig McLeod threw caution to the wind and caused the outrageous collision.
The clip begins with another driver passing through the residential street – moments before McLeod careers his vehicle backwards into a stationary vehicle.
The collision forces the stationary car to move a considerable distance – showing that McLeod must have been driving fast.
McLeod, 22, was later fined £500 and given five penalty points after pleading guilty to careless and inconsiderate driving under section three of the Road Traffic Act.
The offence happened in Leggart Terrace, where to footage was filmed, in August 2016 but the case was held until January of this year.
Punishment was handed down to McLeod, who was 21 at the time, in January.
However, video has now emerged of the exact moment McLeod committed the offence.
Separate footage, belonging to CCTV from a house on the street, catches McLeod’s car flying past. It then smashes into the stationary car, before pulling up at the side of the road, causing a car which was following behind him to stop.
The person in the other car turned out to be an off duty police officer, and the CCTV was handed over to police by the resident who captured it.
A spokesman for Scotland’s Worst Drivers, who obtained the footage, said: “From the CCTV footage it’s hard to understand why this driver did not get an outright ban.
“This was clearly not an accident, but a moment of sheer madness, and it’s lucky that no one was killed.”
The owner of the CCTV, Charlie Mckellar, said: “I was out but returned about 20 seconds after it happened. My neighbours hadn’t even had a chance to come out their house after the impact.
“The car that stopped in front of the crash and witnessed it was an off duty cop.”
