PETER HOUSTON insists he will quit as Falkirk manager if he does not succeed in winning promotion back to the Premiership this season.
Houston, hailed as the ‘Ginger God’ during his playing days with the club, has found himself under pressure from supporters in recent weeks following a disastrous start to the league campaign.
After winning all four Betfred Cup group matches, the Bairns have lost four of their last five outings to crash out of the cup and be left joint-bottom of the Championship with just a point.
Houston cancelled his players’ day off last week and ordered double training sessions, but watched in horror as they succumbed to a 4-1 defeat at home to Queen of the South.
The former Dundee United boss is fully aware results have not been good enough and has targeted two new signings – including Hearts defender Jordan McGhee and Aberdeen full-back Daniel Harvie – in a bid to turn fortunes around.
And the 59-year-old has revealed he shares the fans’ frustrations and will fall on his sword if he does not achieve the goal he set himself when he took over at the club three years ago.
He said: “I understand there are loads of supporters not happy, I totally understand it.
“I don’t have anything to say about them, because I would be the same if I was a supporter. I’d be wanting my team to be showing the form they have done over the last three years.

“We’ll get there. We’ll keep working at it and trying our very, very best. That’s all we can do.
“It’s a marathon and not a sprint. I’m not happy with where we are and I can understand the punters not being happy.
“I don’t criticise any of them for criticising me or the team, it’s our responsibility.
“At the end of the season, if we don’t go up, I’ll walk away. I have no problem with that.
“I’ll have had my time, in a tough three or four years.
“But I’m determined, more than anything, to try to correct this, and I know we’ve got players with the ability to correct it.
“But talk is cheap, we have to do it now.”
