Blackburn relegation is a new low for ex Celtic & Aberdeen man Charlie Mulgrew

SCOTLAND defender Charlie Mulgrew insists Blackburn’s “devastating” relegation from the Championship is the lowest point of his career.

Mulgrew, 31, scored a spectacular free-kick as Rovers claimed a 3-1 Brentford on Sunday – however they still suffered the ignominy of dropping into League One by virtue of an inferior goal difference to Mark Warburton’s Nottingham Forest.

He said: “Everyone is gutted. We’re devastated and it’s hard to speak.

“Everyone was gutted and down. It’s easier said than done – but we have to pick ourselves up. It’s probably the biggest low of my career, the worst feeling yet.

“We thought if we won our last two games then we would have a right chance and that’s what we did, but it wasn’t enough. The season is about 46 games and overall it wasn’t enough.”

Speaking to Blackburn’s official website, Mulgrew added: “We need to bounce back and that’s all we can do.”
