Scotland playmaker James Morrison admits he is targeting 50 international caps after making his 300th appearance for West Brom
The attacking midfielder reached the club milestone in the Baggies’ 2-2 draw at West Ham on February 11, nearly ten years after joining from Middlesbrough.
After representing England at youth level, it was with West Brom that the Darlington-born player made his Scotland debut against the Czech Republic in 2008 having decided to switch his allegiance.
Morrison is just eight caps shy of earning a place on the International Roll of Honour and the 30-year-old is determined to reach the half-century.
He said: “My goal now is to try and get 50 caps, we’ll see how long that will take and what direction we will go in, it’s a target.
“I’ve really enjoyed my time with Scotland, I’ve played against some great teams, great players and had some good times. That England goal (in 2013) will be remembered for a long time.
“It was a big decision that I had to make (to switch allegiance). I sat down with my family and spoke to a few coaches and I decided to do it.”
Despite the disappointment of being shown the door by Boro, Morrison made a seamless switch to West Brom and admits he is loving life at the Hawthorns.
He added: “It’s a good achievement to get to this point and I’m really pleased I’ve done that. Ten years ago now, 300 games and enjoying football still.
“To get told you’re not wanted is not nice, I thought I might have been with Middlesbrough my whole career but then I came down here.”
