Cops probe video of 125mph biker on busy 60mph road

POLICE are investigating shocking video showing a motorbike overtaking cars at 125mph – more than twice the 60mph limit on the road.

The biker flashes past traffic on the Guisborough ring road, North Yorkshire, at a speed 40mph above the threshold for an instant ban.

The dash cam vehicle records its own speed on the two-lane road at 65mph but the biker appears and disappears from view within two seconds.

The reckless motorcyclist passes two other cars while heading into oncoming traffic.

He only darts back on to the left-hand side as another car can be seen approaching from the opposite direction.

Anyone doing more than 85mph on a 60mph road faces an instant ban and could be hit with the maximum fine for speeding of £1,000.

Chris Clough, who was driving the dash cam vehicle, said: “Slowing the clip down I reckon the rider is doing close to 125mph.

“He was heading into oncoming traffic. It is not a dual carriageway on that section of the bypass.”

Footage of the incident was posted on social media this weekend, and users expressed their shock.

Craig Vaughan said: “Hard to see a bike in the distance, you could pull out and the bike would be on top of you before you knew it. Or the biker.”

Mathew Dennison wrote: “Think Bike – think selfish idiot.”

Billy Middleton wrote: “When a biker has a high speed crash at 70mph they’re dead as soon as their body stops flying through the air or impacting into a car.”

Some users even thought the rider was doing more than the 125mph Chris estimated.

Tim Willcock said: “About 140mph”, whilst Roger Titman estimated “136mph.”

Cleveland Police confirmed the footage had been passed on to their Traffic Inspector.

A spokeswoman for the force said: “The road is quite notorious for bad accidents.”

In May last year, fire crews had to cut free the drivers of a Hyundai i10 and a Ford C-Max, which had been in a head-on collision on the road.

And just months earlier, the air ambulance were called after a car came off the A171 and collided with a tree, also becoming trapped in his vehicle.
