JOHN Hughes has appointed Kevin McBride as his number two at Raith Rovers.
The new Stark’s Park boss has described the former Motherwell and Dundee midfielder as his ‘lieutenant’ from their time together at Falkirk and Hibs, and is delighted he will be at his side for Saturday’s encounter with the Easter Road outfit.
McBride retired as a player in December 2015 to concentrate on coaching with Airdrie and was promoted to first-team coach and then head coach last year before leaving the Diamonds in a shake-up in October.
Hughes commented: “Kevin was with me at Falkirk and at Hibs, and he’s in the process of doing his coaching badges.
“He’s a total football man and he was my lieutenant when he was at Falkirk and Hibs.
“Any sort of message you wanted onto the pitch I told him and he changed it for us.
“It’s a good natural progression for him. He knows the game like the back of his hand, he’s very conscientious and I’m delighted it’s gone through.”
