LEE KILDAY hopes Morton can dump Rangers out of the Scottish Cup – by turning their own fans against them.
The Ibrox outfit registered an underwhelming 1-1 draw against Ross County in their last home match on Saturday, with disgruntled supporters making their feelings known at the full-time whistle.
The result saw Aberdeen leapfrog them into second spot in the Premiership and was a meek response to the 4-1 hammering at the hands of Hearts at Tynecastle three days earlier.
Kilday knows that the home supporters will be demanding a reaction on Sunday, a reckons slow start could see the Gers get the jitters – opening the door for the Betfred Cup semi-finalists to claim another scalp.
The Morton captain said: “Everybody is buzzing for the Rangers game. We have belief and hopefully we can get something.
“With getting to the [Betfred Cup] semi-final, it has already been a memorable season in the cup competitions. And we were at Ibrox last year twice and gave a good account of ourselves, so we can go there with confidence.
“It is almost a free shot, no-one expects us to win, and anything can happen.
“On the day, the fans could get on their back and if they haven’t taken the lead early then there could be some nervousness. It’s about us going there, playing the way we can – and we’ll see what happens.
“These are the games we all want to play in, massive matches – Ibrox, 40,000. That is what it is all about and it’s fantastic to have the opportunity to show people how good we are.”
Meanwhile, Morton have been boosted ahead of their trip to Govan by the signing of striker Robert Thomson.
The 23-year-old, who has scored seven goals in 31 outings for Dumbarton this season, has agreed a pre-contract and will join the Cappielow men in the summer.
