LUKE Leahy has revealed Falkirk have been making a song and dance about Tony Gallacher – by taunting the teenager with Barcelona anthems.
The 17-year-old has been linked with interest from a host of big-name clubs, including the Catalan giants and the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool, Manchester City and Celtic.
However, Leahy, who is battling it out with the youngster for the Bairns left-back slot, insists Gallacher will brush off the headlines – and the dressing-room banter.
He said: “None of the speculation will affect him, he’s such a level-headed boy. He doesn’t care about all of that and just gets on with it.
“He’s such a lovely lad and when you think that he’s got all these clubs watching him he’s a top boy.
“There was a few Barcelona songs being sung in the dressing room the day after they were said to be watching him.
“But he’s a young lad and he’s got a good career ahead of him.
“He’s some talent, Tony, and I think he’ll go on to have a great career.
“He certainly does well in training and doesn’t look out of place, and you forget he’s only 17.”
BATTLE
Leahy returned to the starting line-up in place of Gallacher for last weekend’s 2-1 win over St Mirren and is expected to retain his place against bitter rivals Dunfermline.
And the 24-year-old, who admits to growing frustration during his six matches out of the team, has warned his young team-mate that he will not give up his position again easily.
He added: “I was very happy to get back in the team last weekend. It’s been a long seven weeks but I’m glad to be back playing and to get the win was even better.
“I said to Tony on Saturday ‘let the battle begin for the left-back position’.
“It’s good. It’s not nice when you’re not playing but the competition keeps you on your toes – both me and him.
“The three points were massive going into the Dunfermline game on Saturday.
“The last time we played them here it was a great atmosphere, the fans were brilliant, and that’s the best we’ve performed all season.
“So, hopefully we can do it again.”
