LEWIS Stevenson reckons people used to find it funny when he scored, but the Hibs defender insists he has become so ‘prolific’ he will have to pre-plan his goal celebrations.

The 29-year-old scored his first goal of the season in Saturday’s 8-1 win over junior side Bonnyrigg Ross in the Scottish Cup to take his career tally to seven in total.

Easter Road’s longest-serving player went six years without finding the back of the net before his first for the club in 2011, but has now scored in each of the last four campaigns.

Two seasons ago, the full-back managed three in as many months as he broke his usual goal drought in impressive fashion.

But the former Scotland under-21 cap has confessed his celebration at the weekend – where he almost apologetically embraced supporters behind the goal – left a lot to be desired.

He told Hibs TV: “Obviously I’m always delighted to score. I don’t score very often but that’s me scored in each of the last four seasons now.

“I’m going to have to get a decent celebration and work out what to do.

“I was worried I was going to get booked for going into the crowd, but thankfully the referee saw it as momentum that carried me in.

“I think people used to find it funny when I scored, but that’s me on seven, which is pretty respectable now.”

INJURY

Meanwhile, Hibs have been handed good news on the injury sustained by keeper Ofir Marciano in Saturday’s win over Bonnyrigg.

The Israel internationalist received a blow to his back and lasted just 20 minutes in his comeback from seven weeks out with a knee injury.

The 27-year-old was taken to hospital amidst fears of possible fractured ribs but it is understood tests have discovered no broken bones.

He will now be assessed on a day-to-day basis by Hibs’ medical staff to determine when he will be ready to play again.

With only Ross Laidlaw left fit between the sticks, manager Neil Lennon has confessed he may have to recruit a new keeper this month if Marciano’s injury proves long-term.

However, it remains to be seen whether he may prefer to use his available funds in other areas as he monitors Marciano’s recovery.
