Edinburgh City manager Gary Jardine admits he has his sister-in-law to thank after landing former Aberdeen midfielder Josh Walker on an 18-month contract.
The former England Under-20 internationalist, who is now based in the capital, has joined the League Two side following a spell in India with Bengaluru.
Walker is well known to Dons supporters after scoring the opening goal in a memorable UEFA Cup 2-2 draw with German giants Bayern Munich in 2008 during a loan spell from Middlesbrough.
Jardine has revealed how it was his sister-in-law Katie who initially tipped him off about the 27-year-old.
He said: “It was something we had been working on for a couple of months. It’s a weird story, it was my sister-in-law who came across him as his kids went to the same school when she was doing a bit of child-minding.
“She recognised him and told me who he was.
“I tried to do a bit of digging to find out a bit more about him, I spoke to Craig Beattie and he said he had played with him at Watford and that he was a fantastic player.
“I spoke to Josh over the phone, he had moved to Edinburgh and has settled here with his partner and his kids.
“He wanted to play, he still had that fire in the belly but it had to be right.
“He thinks it’s a good fit for him and it’s certainly a good fit for us, he’s got good pedigree and he’s someone that has experience. I’m sure he’ll improve us and enhance our chances of staying up.
“He missed all of last year with injury but he’s been doing his rehab and will certainly be ready by the end of the month.”
