The Scotsman who made history with Gibraltar at Hampden last year has been left stunned to discover that the football association on the Rock are chasing him for the kit he wore that day.

Kilwinning-born Davie Wilson was interim manager of the European minnows when they scored their first ever competitive goal in the 6-1 Euro qualifying defeat to Scotland in March 2015.

The former Kilmarnock trainee took charge of a total of four games, including a clash against world champions Germany, before reverting to his assistant manager role under Jeff Wood.

Wilson, who is a Royal Navy exercise rehabilitation officer based in the British Overseas Territory, was sacked from the dugout during the summer and claims he discovered his fate in a text from the kitman.

But the 42-year-old has been left in shock that the Gibraltar FA are demanding his training kit back, which includes two pairs of shorts, a training top, a rucksack and a black coat.

Wilson has only recently just given some of squad uniform away to raise money for Glasgow’s Children’s Hospital Charity and is furious that the GFA have the audacity to demand he return the gear, especially when he claims he was not even paid his £10 hourly rate for friendly games against Lichtenstein and Latvia in March.

A source close to Wilson, who is currently in charge of Gibraltarian second tier side Bruno’s Magpies, said: “Davie cannot believe that the Gibraltar FA are genuinely chasing him for the training kit that was issued three years ago.

“He did not even get an explanation when he lost his job and feels there is now a personal vendetta against him.

“He was contacted by someone who was raising money for the Glasgow’s Children’s Hospital Charity and he kindly donated his kit in that hope that it could raise some cash.”
