Former England captain Steven Gerrard admits he is considering options on and off the pitch after being linked with a reunion with Brendan Rodgers at Celtic.

The 36-year-old has left LA Galaxy after 18 months in the MLS and will weigh up his next step in the coming weeks.

The midfielder also has the option of taking up a coaching role at former club Liverpool, where he came agonisingly close to winning the Premier League title with under Rodgers, and has confirmed he will honour his media agreement with BT Sport.

Celtic manager Rodgers was coy when asked about Gerrard yesterday and the player has done little to dampen down suggestions that he could head to Parkhead.

Gerrard said: “Although I’m going back to England to live, it’s certainly not the end of me in football terms.

“I’ve got options on the pitch, off the pitch. I’ve got a lot of things to consider over the coming weeks and months and I’m sure I will be back involved in the game somewhere down the line.

“Everyone is aware that I have a contract with BT Sport to analyse the Premier League and Champions League games, which I will honour when I’m back but I’ve got a bit of thinking to do over the next two or three weeks.

“I’m not ready to make a decision or finalise anything that I’m going to be doing moving forward.

“What I will say is that I’m going home to spend some time with my family and basically go over my options and decide what is the best next challenge for me.”

Speaking to Galaxy TV, Gerrard – who made 39 appearances in two seasons with Galaxy – added: “It’s been a fantastic life experience for me, I was at Liverpool for a very long time and I was very comfortable there.

“I was almost like a piece of furniture because I had been there that long.

“To accept this challenge and come here for 17, 18 months, it was a big decision for me but I’ve got no regrets I’ve loved the experience.

“LA Galaxy will live with me forever because I’ve loved the experience but it’s just a shame I don’t have a cup or trophy to remember it by. It wasn’t through a lack of trying.”
