A HEART-STOPPING video shows the moment a reckless driver almost crashes head-on into an HGV while overtaking on a dangerous Highland road.
The footage from a dashcam shows the blue Nissan Note pull in with barely a second to spare as the articulated lorry thunders on.
The incident took place on the A835 near Dingwall, around 11 miles from the Highland capital Inverness. A woman died in an accident on the same stretch of road in August.
As the dangerous driver overtakes the traffic, the livestock HGV in the opposite lane is seen desperately flashing his lights, warning the driver.
The Nissan driver then darts back in to the correct lane and brakes heavily so as to slot back in to the traffic.
Following closely behind the HGV is a long line of traffic which appear unaware of the near miss.
The caption for the video states: “The gap was a lot less than what the camera seems to show – it was very close.”
A spokesman for road safety website Scotland’s Worst Drivers, who obtained the footage, said: “This driver clearly has a deathwish to go head to head with an large truck
“I don’t understand why this driver would you take such a risk, it’s not like the driver who was filming this was crawling.
“We have seen too many serious accidents and deaths on Scotland’s roads in recent years, and thankfully we are not looking at another statistic here.”
A spokeswoman from Police Scotland said: “We looking in to it to see if we’ve had any reports made to us.”
In August this year, a former NHS chairwoman was killed on the A835 after the car she was in collided with another vehicle.
Caroline Thomson, 63, who lived near Inverness, was a passenger in an Audi V8 which was involved in a collision with a Toyota Auris.
Mrs Thomson’s husband Allan, and another man were injured in the crash.
Mrs Thomson was chairwoman of NHS Highland from 1997 to 2004 and was presented with an OBE for her services to the NHS in Scotland in 2003.
She worked as a nurse at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London before moving to Inverness in the 1970s.
