Deadline photographer Wullie Marr scoops top prize at Scottish Press Photography Awards

DEADLINE News photographer Wullie Marr was crowned photographer of the year at the Scottish Press Photography Awards this weekend.

Wullie was awarded the gong ahead of The Daily Record photographers Garry McHarg (2015 winner) and Alasdair MacLeod after scooping 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the politics category at the awards, as well as 1st and 2nd in the arts and entertainment section.

Wullie said: “I’m really pleased to have won, and have my work recognised by the judges, who are all picture editors on national newspapers.

“There was a strong set of pictures submitted across all categories but I’m especially pleased to have placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd in politics, in what was a busy time for all the country’s photographers.”

Peter Laing, Managing Editor at Deadline News said:”We’re delighted for Wullie that his incredible hard work, determination and skill as a photographer have been recognised by his peers in the business.

“Wullie has a rare talent for capturing the essence of a story in a single frame. That combined with his technical nous and untiring can-do attitude make him one of the best in the business.”
