Laser tattoo removal set to rise in wake of Brangelina break up

Divorces are never without their complications, but once you’ve sorted the kids, the house and the car, there may remain other sore spots that need dealt with – in the form of an unwanted tattoo.

With the recent news of the Brangelina break up, fans have been quick to point out that Brad Pitt has Angelina’s birthdate and a large letter ‘A’ tattooed on his stomach, and the pair also revealed matching Buddhist symbols in February of this year.

Jolie has previously made no secret of her choice to have unwanted ink removed, having already had the co-ordinates of her children’s birthplaces tattooed in place of her ex-husband Billy Bob Thorton’s name.

In 2014, it was reported that tattoo removal revenue had surged 440% in a decade as thousands sought to follow in the footsteps of stars, like Jolie, removing their body art, with relationship break ups among the reasons for the leap.

Now, with tattoo removals also at an all time high because of Channel 4’s Tattoo Fixers, Scotland’s leading cosmetic clinic Dermal Clinic has invested in a new laser tattoo removal treatment in hope it can come to the aid of people with an all too permanent mistake.

The treatment offered by award-winning Edinburgh-based clinic is also capable of removing even more colours than traditional laser treatments.

Jackie Partridge, BSc (DERM) RGN NIP at Dermal Clinic, said: “Relationship break ups do appear to be one of the most common reasons that a person may choose to remove an unwanted tattoo.

“At Dermal Clinic, we offer a top of the range laser removal treatment in the form of the RevLite laser to get rid of embarrassing tattooed names or designs that may have seemed like a good idea at the time. As different colours require different frequencies of laser light absorption, it’s unusual to actually find a laser that can treat as many colours as this one.

“In fact, we often get clients referred to us to have the finishing touches put to their removal, as other lasers have not been quite effective enough.”

The FDA-approved RevLite laser emits very high power light pulses into the skin to break the ink down into much smaller particles. These smaller ink particles are then removed by the body’s own immune system or lymphatic system over a period of time, making the unwanted tattoo a thing of the past.

For those nervous about the laser removal treatment being painful, Dermal Clinic also provides Cryo Cooling at no extra charge to make the procedure more comfortable.

Jackie, Best Independent Nurse Prescriber at The Look Awards 2016, added: “As tattoos have grown in popularity, so too have the number of people looking to have their tattoos removed. For people in certain jobs, it could be a costly mistake to have a tattoo which is inappropriate or even prohibited.

“It’s a fairly simple procedure, usually requiring just five to six treatments and results are typically seen after just one or two of these. Our laser is also sufficiently accurate to fade full tattoos, or parts of tattoos, such as names, so that a different tattoo can be placed above and fewer treatments are needed for this process.

“At Dermal Clinic, we aim to provide a wide range of services to suit every individual and work hard to provide the highest quality and safest customer care possible. The quality of our laser tattoo removal is testament to this.”

Dermal Clinic, located in Edinburgh’s Church Hill Place, is one of Scotland’s leading cosmetic clinics with a team of high quality professionals dedicated to provide specialist care for the face and body.

It specialises in providing expert advice, solutions and services to help clients feel better about themselves – including treatments unique to Scotland.

The benefit of the RevLite Laser is its Photoacoustic Technology Pulse (PTP) – a unique dispersion of energy that delivers narrow pulse widths at peak power. Clinical studies indicate that the PTP mode offers greater efficacy and increased patient comfort for skin revitalisation.

The cost of the laser tattoo removal treatment depends on the size, the colour, the ink depth and the age of the tattoo. As a guide, prices start from £50 for a 3cm square area.
