Firefighters tackle blaze on city centre bus

SHOCKING images show the moment a double decker bus burst into flames in Edinburgh’s city centre.

Pictures show the number 35 Lothian bus engulfed in flames whilst on Slateford Road shortly before 4pm today.

Several photographs were shared by shocked pedestrians showing the aftermath of the fire.

Smashed glass from the windows and emergency exit door can be seen lying on the road along with bus seating.

And the whole rear end of the bus appears to have exploded after a possible engine fire.

Scottish Fire and Rescue firefighters were spotted climbing into the bus carrying breathing apparatus.

Fire crews are currently in attendance trying to clear between 20-30 litres of diesel spillage.

Weber Shandwick, who represent Lothian buses confirmed that people were on board at the time but are waiting on an update from Lothian buses.

It is understood that the driver and passengers were able to get off the bus before the flames really took hold and no injuries were reported.
