CAPTAIN Jason Thomson is convinced Raith Rovers have the characters required to shake off back-to-back defeats.
The Stark’s Park men are still third in the Championship but lost their unbeaten league run with Saturday’s 2-0 reverse at home to Falkirk.
The loss came after a shock defeat to League Two Forfar Athletic in the IRN-BRU Cup.
There was a lifelessness to the Kirkcaldy outfit in attack against the Bairns and they were undone at the other end by goals from former hero John Baird and Tom Taiwo.
However, after manager Gary Locke and assistant Darren Jackson stressed the need to show determination in the wake of two poor results, Thomson is adamant they can bounce back.
The 29-year-old former Hearts defender said: “I’ve been here a while and been about a while now playing football, so you know the characters that are needed – and we’ve got them in the squad.
“And we’ve got the manager and Jacko, who have talked to us about desire. You can have all the ability and this and that, but if you don’t have the desire it’s going to be a hard game.
“We just need to make sure we have that burning desire to go and do well.
REACTION
“It’s a defeat, so it’s about how we react now. We’re five games in, so it’s not the end of the world, but we need a reaction.
“It doesn’t make us a bad team just because we’ve lost one game but we need a reaction.
“There were too many players off it, but we’ll not get too down about it. It’s over now but it will be at the back of our minds that we’ll need a performance on Saturday.”
Raith face a tough trip this weekend to take on Queen of the South, who maintained their unbeaten run with a 3-1 win away to St Mirren on Saturday.
Asked if he and his team-mates can discover more about each other in their current slump in form, he added: “It’s the old cliche that you learn more when you’re up against it, and we could do.
“But ask me again on Saturday and I’ll tell you.”
