Former Scotland and Rangers defender Kirk Broadfoot has agreed a new two-year deal to remain with Alan Stubbs’ Rotherham.
Former Hibs boss Stubbs is delighted the Millers captain has pledged his future to the New York stadium outfit after Broadfoot’s previous deal had expired before he took over the reigns.
Right-back Stephen Kelly has also shaken hands on fresh terms with the English Championship outfit.
Broadfoot joined Rotherham in summer 2014 from Blackpool and made 33 appearances last season.
Stubbs said: “It’s done. They have yet to come in and sign, but the deals are agreed.
“Negotiations have been pretty straightforward, to be honest.
“The players have have been away, which meant things took a bit longer. The talks have been positive and I was always hopeful.
“I’m delighted they’ve chosen to commit their futures to us. I’m really looking forward to working with them and all the other players.”
Stubbs, meanwhile, admits he could not compete with Blackburn Rovers’ financial proposal after losing out on former Celtic and Hibs marksman Anthony Stokes to Owen Coyle’s side.
Stubbs, speaking to the Sheffield Star, added: “We only had an interest in him. Financially, he was offered more at Blackburn and he chose that option. I wish him well.
“You never have just one target and there are a number of other players we are pursuing.”
