Owen Coyle is on the look out for a new club after quitting his role as head coach of MLS outfit Houston Dynamo for family reasons.

Former St Johnstone, Burnley, Bolton and Wigan boss Coyle and his assistant Sandy Stewart have departed Houston 18 months after moving across the Atlantic.

Coyle led Dynamo to an eighth place finish in the Western Conference last year, while Houston currently sit bottom of their section this season with three wins from 12 league matches.

Paisley-born Coyle, who won 14 of his 46 matches in charge, said: “I asked (president) Chris Canetti if I could speak with him and I explained to him the challenge of being away from my family and how we all want the best for Houston Dynamo.

“I want to wish all members of the staff, from owner Gabriel Brener to president Chris Canetti to general manager Matt Jordan, everyone has been such a source of support, along with the players and the technical staff.

“I’d like to thank the Dynamo supporters, who have been outstanding. We have a brilliant club, and I have no doubt success is just around the corner.”

Canetti said: “It is unfortunate that we were unable to achieve the goals we set forth together and that we find ourselves mutually parting ways as a result of many professional and personal circumstances.

“Without a doubt, Owen brought many great qualities to the club since his arrival 18 months ago and made a positive impression on the people around him.

“He is an excellent coach and an even better person, and I wish him and his terrific family nothing but the best going forward.”

Despite their struggles in the MLS, several Houston players were sad to see Coyle and Stewart leave.

Forward Zach Steinberger tweeted: “I want to thank Owen and Sandy for helping me grow as a player the last two years and wish them all the best going forward #ForeverOrange.”

Follow striker Will Bruin said: “I have nothing but good things to say about Owen and Sandy. They are great people and I know they will have success down the road.”

Meanwhile, midfielder Rob Lovejoy tweeted: “Huge thank you to Owen and Sandy for offering me the opportunity to play for this club. Best wishes to them as they move on.”
