Lee Ashcroft admits the prospect of a reunion with former Kilmarnock boss Allan Johnston was too good to turn down after joining Dunfermline.
Ashcroft, 22, made 71 appearances for the Ayrshire outfit after breaking into the first-team at the tail-end of the 2012/13 campaign.
However, he was one of six players to be released by Lee Clark following Kilmarnock dramatic Premiership survival against Falkirk.
And the young centre-half has immediately penned a two-year contract with the Fifers.
“I was at Killie for six years, but Allan Johnston was the first man to really give me my chance in the first team,” Ashcroft said. “I will always be appreciative of that.
“When he approached me about Dunfermline it felt like the right move. I’m delighted to have got my future sorted so quickly and I’m ready to go.”
Ashcroft has immediately set his sights on a playoff charge with the Pars, who claimed the League 1 title at a canter last term.
“From a personal point of view I want to improve every year and prove some people wrong,” he continued. “As a club, Dunfermline are massive, so we need to be looking to win as many games as we can and push for that playoff position.
Meanwhile, striker Michael Moffat has penned a new one-year deal with the Fifers.
