Police probe footage of white man van’s “stupid” driving on one of Scotland’s busiest roads

POLICE are investigating footage of a white van driver forcing their way on to one of Scotland’s busiest roads.

The driver then carries out a dangerous lane change before slamming on the brakes.

The incident takes place even though a police traffic car is parked on the hard shoulder already dealing with what is thought to have been a breakdown.

The dashcam footage was shot on the Edinburgh bypass last week and shows the driver staying on the hard shoulder after “running out” of slip road. They then barge into the slow lane.

The driver later pulls into the outside lane without any indication and then slams on the brakes, forcing the dashcam vehicle to brake sharply.

The van carries the logo of Eastway Construction, a company based in Dalgety Bay, Fife, which specialises in the construction of new roads, sewers and street lighting works. It remains unclear if the vehicle is still owned by the firm of was being driven by one of its employees.

A spokesman for campaiging website Scotland’s Worst Drivers, said: “All this driver had to do was wait like everyone else to merge safely, instead he decided to drive on hard shoulder.

“Thankfully a vehicle that had broken down was a little further up the dual carriageway.

“We hope Police Scotland take a look at the offences committed here, especially changing lanes without signalling, failing to ensure there was adequate room and performing a brake check that could have had disastrous consequences.

“Selfishness and stupdity has no place on Scotland’s roads, drivers that perform these dangerous manoeuvres seem to have little concern for their own and the safety of others.”

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “Road policing officers will review the evidence available and take appropriate action thereafter.

“We encourage the public to report instances of careless or reckless driving as soon as possible on 101.”

Eastway Construction declined to comment.
