Scotland face reunion with unpopular referee Svein Oddvar Moen

Scotland will tonight be reunited with the referee that came under fire during their opening Euro 2016 qualifying defeat in Germany.

Norwegian official Svein Oddvar Moen, who presided over the agonising 2-1 defeat to the world champions in Dortmund in September 2014, has been selected to oversee this evening’s visit of Denmark at Hampden.

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan was left biting his tongue after the game following a series of bewildering decisions.

Moen failed to show German defender Erik Durm a red card for a professional foul on Steven Naismith before then brandishing a second yellow card to Charlie Mulgrew for time-wasting – even though Scotland were losing.

The Norwegian then blew his full-time whistle just as Scotland were about to take a corner.

Strachan prevented his players from swarming around the official at the end of the match but speaking after the qualifier, the Scotland manger said: “I wasn’t incensed with him. I went onto the pitch to make sure my coaching staff didn’t overstep the mark and to congratulate the lads.

“We try our best not to speak about referees but I would love to see the referee’s assessment of that performance. That’s all I have to say about that.

“Unfortunately we don’t get to see them.”

Moen was also the man in the middle when Celtic beat Shakhtyor Karagandy 3-0 in a Champions League play-off clash in 2013.

His fellow countrymen Kim Thomas and Frank Andas are the assistant referees, while Ken Henry Johnsen is the fourth official for tonight’s friendly.
