JASON Thomson is not about to make bold predictions about Raith Rovers’ play-off aspirations – but admits fourth is now firmly in their grasp.
The Stark’s Park men moved seven points clear in fourth place with Tuesday’s 2-0 win over nearest challengers Queen of the South.
Following victories over fellow-promotion hopefuls Morton and St Mirren in recent weeks, the Kirkcaldy men have put themselves firmly in pole position to clinch a play-off spot.
But, with manager Ray McKinnon coy over his team’s chances, skipper Thomson is not about to break ranks with his gaffer.
He said: “I know the manager isn’t going to say we are going to finish fourth and neither am I but we have put ourselves in a strong position.
“Looking at it now, it is ours to lose.
“At this stage it is all about points and churning out results. Performances maybe come second just now which is maybe not ideal but you would rather have that than play well and not get results.
“I think fourth place is there to be had and hopefully we will be there.”
Thomson has only recently returned from a lengthy spell out with a broken bone in his back and has returned to a team bolstered by new recruits.
McKinnon has also worked hard to secure players for beyond this season and Thomson is delighted he will be part of the club’s future after penning a new two-tear deal.
He added: “The manager is getting boys signed up now, including myself. It is a two-year deal and I am delighted about it.
“I am 28 now and two-year deals are hard to get in the Championship. The manager and me got it sorted within a week and it was signed so it is all good.
“Hopefully we will be pushing for promotions and playing in the Premiership, eventually.”
