Queen of the South midfielder Kyle Jacobs bracing himself for battle against Alloa

Queen of the South midfielder Kyle Jacobs insists Livingston secured their Championship status with a smile on their face – and reckons Alloa will try to do exactly the same.

Jacobs was part of the Lions team that avoided last season’s trapdoor after being six points adrift of safety with six games remaining.

The Doonhamers will bid to maintain their play-off push in today’s visit of basement outfit Alloa but Jacobs admits Queens are bracing themselves for a team that are fighting for their lives.

Jacobs said: “I was in a relegation fight with Livingston last season and we did well.

“We were written off and I think that probably helped us a bit, we just concentrated and enjoyed our football and I think that’s what they’ll start to do.

“They can enjoy it and pick up wins.

“It’s always going to be dangerous with them being at the bottom and we need to be on our toes, hopefully the boys are up for it.

“Jack Ross has come in as their new manager and in the last couple of games they’ve done really well.

“We know it’s going to be tough, they’re fighting for their lives.”

Queens are only two points adrift of the play-offs and Jacobs admits they firmly have fourth place Raith Rovers in their sights.

He added: “It was disappointing our game was postponed last week. But all the boys are ready and up for playing, especially being so close to fourth sport – so we’re looking to push on.

“Our season has not been great but we’re still within touching distance of fourth place.

“If we start picking up a few more wins and go on a bit of a run, I think we can definitely cement a place in fourth.”

Meanwhile, Alloa manager Ross insists last week’s abandoned clash at home to Morton was not a complete waste of time.

The Wasps were on track to record a successive win courtesy of Michael Duffy’s strike but the game was called off in the 68th minute due to heavy snowfall.

Ross said: “We’ve got to take belief and motivation from it. We have to use it the right way to try and drive ourselves back on again.

“It wasn’t a completely fruitless day in that respect.

“Since I’ve come in I’ve worked hard getting the players onside and I still think they can believe in themselves even more.”
