Wat-er nightmare! High pressure water sprayed meters into the air as works in city centre go sideways

WORKS on Waterloo Place in the city centre resulted in the accidental addition of a temporary water feature when high pressured H2O was left spurting meters into the air.

Locals spotted the fountain of water yesterday morning on Waterloo Place in the city centre.

One witness reported seeing a workman receive a face full of water after going at a pipe with a stopcock.

The fountain of water was photographed by passersby with the pressure spraying gallons of water high into the air.

It was quickly addressed by workmen on the site with the flow stopped shortly after it began.

Reports from locals later in the day state that the water was stopped and the pipe covered over.

It’s unclear why works were being conducted on Waterloo Place plumbing with no official statements released from Scottish Water or the city council.

One local posted to social media yesterday saying: “Beautiful new fountain on Waterloo Place this morning.”

The post received over 1,100 likes and more than two dozen comments from locals cracking jokes about the makeshift fountain.

One said: “The adjacent North Bridge will no doubt be affected by this and closed for an additional 300 years.”

Another replied: “Bidet if you’re brave enough.”

A third commented: “Thank goodness there are cones either side, otherwise I’d walk straight into that.”

Another punned: “Let’s just hope it isn’t water from the loo.”

A fifth wrote: “Splash fountain. My kids will be thrilled.”

Scottish Water and the City of Edinburgh Council have been contacted for comment.
