NEW fares have been introduced for buses in Edinburgh, with fares for bus routes to the airport being slashed.
The new fares were announced yesterday as part of a revision scheme for Lothian, Country and East Coast buses.
Several routes in and around the city will be affected by the changing prices which will come into effect on April 6.
Two buses to Edinburgh Airport, the Skylink 400 and the Skylink 200, will both receive new designations and fares, with the 400 now becoming the 18 and the 200 the 17.

Each will now also operate on standard city bus rates, which are due to go up as part of the fare revision.
The change, however, sees a premium cost for those travelling to the airport dropped, bringing the overall price down to £2.20.
There will be no changes to the Airport Airlink single and return fares however, so the new 18 and 17 are now the cheapest bus to catch to the airport.
This is down from the original £5.50 fare with the premium being dropped but up from the original city bus fare of £2.
Lothian buses said: “Following a review, we’ve taken the decision to revise our two Skylink services which are now provided as part of our regular city offering, providing easier, faster and more cost-effective connections for those travelling between Edinburgh Airport and the city suburbs.
“Skylink 200 will become service 17 and Skylink 400 will become service 18, with regular city fares applying on these routes for those travelling to the airport.”
The service revisions have caused some controversy among locals with the service 26 to Tranent being cut.
