“I thought that was a photo of Gaza” – Photos from Ocean Terminal demolition reveal piles of rubble reminiscent of a warzone

PHOTOS of the ongoing demolition of the iconic Edinburgh shopping centre Ocean Terminal show massive destruction done to the old structure.

An image captured by a local from the balcony of the neighbouring Port of Leith Distillery Bar shows the entire worksite in ruins.

Shared to social media the images sparked shock among locals who compared the site to a warzone.

Rubble is left in towering piles across the site with the old car park on the Northern side of the shopping centre ripped down to the ground.

A number of pieces of construction equipment and heavy machinery can be seen strewn across the site waiting to continue the demolition work.

Some parts of the old building still stand with partly destroyed walls on the edge of the site visible in the photos.

A large hole has been dug directly in the centre of the work site leaving a mound of earth and gravel next to it.

The images were shared to social media with the caption: “Right side of Ocean Terminal. Demolition update.”

The post received over 170 likes and more than two dozen comments from social media users left shocked by the demolition site.

One user wrote: “There goes that good version of the Ocean Terminal Pure Gym.”

Another replied: “I thought that was a photo of Gaza.”

A third added: “I didn’t realise that there’s a suburb of Kyiv called Edinburgh?”

Another said: “Build flats please.”

A fifth joked: “I hope they find what they are looking for.”
