A WALL in Polwarth has been smashed to pieces by a large tree that fell over during Sunday’s high winds.
A huge pile of bricks was scattered over the pavement and road as the tree left a gaping hole in its path.
Friday and Sunday saw wind speeds of up to 40mph, as the Met Office issued yellow weather warnings across the country on both days.
Trees across the city were damaged, blocking paths and roads, and the fire brigade were called out to see to falling roof tiles in Bruntsfield.

Locals were shocked to find a large part of the wall on Granville Terrace broken to pieces by a fallen tree on Sunday.
Pedestrians were forced to avoid the debris, which was later cleared away, though the cavern in the wall remains.
The high winds that moved through the country last weekend caused Princes Street Gardens to close to avoid casualties from any similar incidents, though no trees were reported to have fallen in the area.
Just a short distance from Polwarth, the fire and rescue service were called to a tenement in Bruntsfield where roof tiles and masonry had become dislodged and were falling onto the pavement below.
The street was closed from around midday until 1:17pm on Sunday as firefighters removed the debris and ensured the area was safe.
Flights on Friday were also subject to shaky or aborted landings, as one video showed the terrifying moments a KLM plane attempted to land in Edinburgh, fighting through strong winds.
The City of Edinburgh Council has confirmed that this is a private wall damaged by a private tree within the garden, so is not under their jurisdiction to repair.
